| Most of Belarus is a flat plain, with little variation in relief. The elevation is generally higher in the north, and a chain of hills runs through the central portion of the country. Marshy lowlands cover the southern region of Polesye (the Pripet Marshes) in the basin of the Pripyat River. About one-third of the country is covered with forests, mostly coniferous and birch. | |
